Introducing the Autonomy Multiplier
A metric for tracking the divergence between autonomy-first and copilot-only enterprises.
Throughput per employee is not a new metric. Comparing throughput between enterprises that have committed to autonomous AI infrastructure and those that have not is new.
We are introducing a single measure for this comparison: the Autonomy Multiplier.
The Autonomy Multiplier is throughput per employee, indexed to a Q1 2025 baseline, tracked quarterly across Fortune Global 500 enterprises. Autonomy-first enterprises are those with three or more autonomous workflows in production and formal architectural commitment to expanding them. Copilot-only enterprises are those that have deployed conversational AI tools but have not deployed autonomous workflows.
Our scenario report ("Enterprise Autonomy 2028") projects the multiplier reaching 3.4× by Q4 2028 in leading deployments. Copilot-only enterprises are projected to reach 1.2× — modest efficiency gains, no architectural leverage.
We will publish the multiplier quarterly. Methodology and dataset are open.
